Removal of Inclusions using Swirling Flow in a Single-Strand Tundish

Swirling flow tundish was developed to enhance the coalescence of inclusions, so as deeply clean liquid steel. Inclusions would gather center swirling by centripetal force, due density difference between inclusions and Thus, small can coalesce into larger ones, then float free surface their self-buoyance. Physical experiments were carried out in a 1/2.5 scale single strand study characteristics with chamber. Numerical modeling simulate movements flow. Discrete phase model employed together O’Rourke algorithm characterize The removal investigated, considering absorption upper slag trapping outside wall ladle shroud. Compared turbulence inhibitor, chamber shows similar effect on improvement, while performs better inclusion removal, owing caused force. results revealed that diameter 450 mm is an optimized scheme for deep cleaning steel, only 1.66% flowing nozzle.
